Hello!
After working non-stop for six weeks with no weekends, I’ve just now started feeling like a human again. It’s par for the course in my line of work, but as I get older, it takes me a bit longer to come back to life.
While I haven’t been updating this newsletter in *checks notes* 4 months(😳), a lot of my free creative energy has gone into my new radio show called Echo Deck. I joined the Freeform Portland radio collective this past winter, an all independent and volunteer non profit community radio station.
It has given me an opportunity to revisit DJing / sequencing after almost a decade of it being absent from my life. Hosting and DJing Echo Deck has made it possible for me to merge ideas that have been with me since childhood, new perspectives and skills I’ve acquired over the years. Every other Friday evening I am lucky enough to able to transmit these ideas over radio frequencies. The results are two hour expeditions through my record collection. Focusing on adventurous, vibrant, funky, transcendent sounds and forms.
Another aspect of this show that has brought me a lot of joy, has been creating the art for each episode of the show. All of the elements: photographs, drawings, textures and paintings are my own, and makes the whole process really complete for me. It’s taken me a long time to find something that I can flow with on this level and I’m excited to share it with you.
In the spirit of free flowing and breaking out of an isolated mindset, I have decided to keep the photo essays on the shorter side. Short bursts work better for me. The whole point of this project is reaching out and being connected to you all without social media. It’s a dialogue, and I really appreciate you taking the time to reading, looking and talking with me.
